When starting a juice business, it's crucial to ensure you have all the necessary licenses and permits to operate legally and safely. Each country, state, and even city can have different requirements, so it's important to do thorough research and comply with all regulations. Below are the steps you'll need to take:

  • Research Local Regulations: Check with your local health department and small business administration to understand what's required in your area for a juice business.
  • Food Service License: Apply for a food service license since you will be serving food to the public. This often involves a health department inspection.
  • Business License: Obtain a general business license from your city or county clerk's office to operate legally.
  • Sales Permit: If your state collects sales tax, you'll need a sales tax permit to collect and report sales tax on your products.
  • Food Handler's Permit: You and your staff may need to be certified through a food safety course and acquire food handler's permits.
  • Food Establishment Permit: If you are processing and bottling your own juice, an additional food establishment permit may be required.
  • Zoning and Land Use Permits: Ensure your location is zoned for commercial use and that you have the proper land use permits if required.

What licenses and permits are needed to run a juice business?

Depending on the locality, licenses and permits required to run a juice business may include food service permits, a business license, health code compliance certification, and licensing to operate a commercial kitchen. In addition, the business may be subject to additional licenses and permits related to alcohol sales or other products that are sold in addition to juice.

Starting a juice business requires not only a great recipe but also smart financial planning. Opening a business bank account and securing the necessary funding are critical steps in establishing a solid foundation for your company. • Explore funding options: Look into traditional loans, business lines of credit, investors, crowdfunding, or small business grants that might be available for food and beverage startups.
  • Build a strong business plan: A solid business plan can help convince lenders and investors that your juice business is a worthwhile investment.
  • Consider specialized lenders: Some financial institutions focus on the food and beverage industry and may offer more tailored loan products for your juice business.

Setting the right price for your juice services is a critical step in ensuring the success of your business. It involves balancing costs, understanding your target market, and aligning with the industry standards. Here are some key points to consider when establishing your pricing strategy:

  • Cost Analysis: Calculate the cost of ingredients, packaging, labor, and overhead to determine the baseline cost of your juices.
  • Competitive Pricing: Research competitor prices to set a competitive rate that still ensures a profit margin without pricing out potential customers.
  • Value-Based Pricing: Consider the perceived value of your juices. If you're using organic or high-quality ingredients, you might price higher to reflect the quality.
  • Volume Discounts: Offer discounts for larger purchases to encourage bulk sales while maintaining a healthy profit margin.
  • Dynamic Pricing: Be open to adjusting your prices based on seasonal availability of ingredients, special promotions, or changing market conditions.
  • Tiered Pricing: Provide different pricing tiers for various sizes or subscription services to cater to different customer needs and preferences.

Our business will differentiate itself through our focus on high-quality, customized mango production and personalized customer relationships.

Marketing and Sales Plan

Our marketing strategy is to attract local customers and mango enthusiasts through personalized and direct customer relationships. We plan to establish relationships with farmer's markets, online marketplaces, and community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs to sell our high-quality mangoes at a premium price. Our advertising channels will be social media, flyers, and posters. Our goal is to build brand awareness and loyalty by highlighting the unique attributes of our mangoes such as their flavor profile, ripeness, and nutritional benefits. We will invest $5,000 in marketing and promotional activities during the first year of operation.

Based on our market analysis and the current demand for high-quality mangoes, we anticipate strong sales performance for Mango Farms. In the first year of operation, we expect to sell approximately 10,000 pounds of mangoes, generating a revenue of $150,000. As our customer base grows and we expand our production capacity, we aim to increase our sales by 30% each year and reach a revenue of $450,000 by the third year of operation.

We will implement a pricing strategy that reflects the premium quality of our mangoes and the direct relationship we establish with our customers. Our prices will be slightly higher than those of our competitors, but we will offer value-added products such as frozen mangoes, mango puree, and mango juice to diversify our revenue streams and target different customer segments.

To achieve our sales targets, we will leverage a mix of marketing channels, including farmer's markets, online marketplaces, and CSA programs. We will also establish partnerships with local grocery stores and restaurants that share our commitment to quality and sustainability. Our marketing and promotional activities will focus on educating customers about the unique attributes of our mangoes, such as their flavor profile, ripeness, and nutritional benefits. We will also use social media and email marketing to engage with our customers and generate loyalty.

Location and Facilities

Equipment and tools.

Our marketing and sales plan requires the use of several equipment and tools to effectively communicate the unique attributes of our high-quality mangoes to customers. Here is an outline of the required equipment or tools and the cost associated with purchasing or renting them:

Investing in these equipment and tools can help us to effectively market and promote our mangoes to our target customers, build brand awareness, and ultimately increase sales and revenue.

Management and Organization

Organizational structure.

Our Mango Production Business Plan will have a simple organizational structure with clear roles and responsibilities for each employee. The following table outlines the different roles and responsibilities:

The flow of information between levels of the organization will be direct and straightforward. The farm supervisor will report to the owner/manager and the sales and marketing manager will report to the owner/manager as well. The customer service representative will work closely with the sales and marketing manager and delivery driver, ensuring that orders are fulfilled and delivered on time.

Management Team

As we grow our Mango Production business, we anticipate taking on high-level management roles within our company and are currently scouting potential candidates. Below is a table highlighting our desired qualities and qualifications for each role:

Our management team will be essential to the success of our business and we will be diligent in selecting candidates that possess the necessary skills and experience to help us achieve our goals.

Management Team Gaps

In our Mango Production Business Plan, we currently do not have candidates ready to fill the role of a marketing specialist or a sales representative who can establish and maintain relationships with local customers. We recognize the importance of marketing and promoting our mangoes to attract new customers and retain existing ones. Therefore, we plan to hire someone with expertise in marketing and sales to fill this gap.

Personnel Plan

As a mango production business, we will require a team of skilled individuals to manage different aspects of the business. We anticipate hiring for the following positions:

Company History and Ownership

Mango Farms was founded in 2022 by a team of experienced agricultural experts and business consultants with deep knowledge of the mango market in Florida. The founding team saw an opportunity to establish a mango production company that focuses on providing high-quality mangoes directly to consumers while building a strong brand reputation and customer loyalty.

The company is privately owned by the founding team, who collectively own 100% of the shares. The team has a strong track record of business success and a shared vision for building a profitable and sustainable mango farming business that caters to the diverse needs and tastes of customers.

Management and Organization of Mango Farms has planned a detailed roadmap of specific goals and objectives to steer the business towards success.

Key Metrics

The following key performance indicators (KPIs) help gauge the overall performance and health of the mango production business:

  • Sales revenue
  • Customer retention rate
  • Customer feedback on mango quality and flavor profile

These metrics will be regularly tracked and analyzed to ensure the direct-to-consumer model is successful and profitable.

Financial Plan and Metrics

The following tables outline the expected and incurred costs for starting and operating our Mango Production business:

These numbers are estimates and subject to change as the business grows and evolves.

In conclusion, we expect to make a significant profit in the first year of operation, with a steady increase in revenue and profit margin in the coming years as our business grows and gains brand recognition among mango enthusiasts and health-conscious consumers. Our financial plan aligns with our primary business goal of establishing Mango Farms as a leading mango producer and distributor in Florida by leveraging our Direct-to-Consumer model and providing high-quality products and personalized customer relationships.

Projected Cash Flow

Projected Balance Sheet

Here is a balance sheet statement for our Mango Production Business Plan for the next three years (2023, 2024, and 2025).

As we can see from the balance sheet, our assets increase while our liabilities and equity also rise in the next three years. We will track these numbers closely to ensure we are meeting our financial goals and making smart investments for the future of our business.

For the initial phase of our business, we plan to hire a team of 3 employees: a mango farmer, a marketing specialist, and a sales representative. The farmer will be responsible for the production of high-quality mangoes, while the marketing specialist will develop and execute marketing campaigns to attract and retain customers. The sales representative will establish a direct relationship with our customers and manage mango sales through farmer's markets and online marketplaces.

As a startup, we plan to offer competitive compensation packages to attract and retain top talent. The farmer will be paid a base salary plus a performance-based bonus, tied to the quality and quantity of mangoes produced. The marketing specialist and sales representative will be offered a base salary plus commission on sales made. As we grow, we intend to add additional personnel to support our expanding production and sales operations.

Our employees will be an integral part of our business, and we will ensure that they are aligned with our company's mission and vision. We value diversity, inclusivity, and teamwork and will provide ongoing training and development opportunities to our employees to help them grow and succeed in their roles.

Use of Funds

Below is a breakdown of how the startup costs of $500,000 will be used:

This breakdown of expenses will be shared with investors and lenders to show where the startup costs are being allocated and how they will benefit the growth and success of Mango Farms.

Exit Strategy

Our exit strategy for the Mango Production Business Plan includes exploring various options, including acquisition, selling, or passing the business along to a family member or employee who shares our passion and vision for delivering high-quality mangoes. Our goal is to create a profitable and sustainable business that not only benefits our customers but also offers an attractive opportunity for potential investors or buyers in the future.

We are in the Mango Juice Production Business because we want to take advantage of the numerous opportunities in the agricultural sector, to help Nigeria’s economy improve by increasing domestic food production, exporting agricultural products from Nigeria to other nations, reducing waste, and above all else, to make a profit.

We are committed to sustainability as a company and we actively contribute to the development of our host community. We are equally committed to meeting our customers’ needs precisely and completely. As such, we hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards.

PATILAD has been able to put together a group of great professionals and the best available equipment to run. With the goal of reaching the larger national market and the intention to go international, PATILAD continues to focus on marketing, distribution, brand development, research, and development.

Market Potential

There is high demand for fruit juice in Nigeria. With a population of over 165 million people and an estimated national population growth rate of 5.7% per annum, an average economic growth rate of 3.5% per annum in the past five {5} years, Nigeria has a large market for fruit juice.

With the recent ban on imported food items including fruit juice, there exists now a favorable climate for local producers of fruit juice. Today, fruit juice, such as “five alive” and “Just juice” are now beyond the reach of average Nigerians, and juices are demanded for occasions such as weddings, birthdays, burials, and cooperate events. There now exists a great opportunity for local producers of juice as locally produced ones can effectively compete well with imported items in terms of price.

Prior to the ban, approximately 80 percent (about 170 million liters per year, valued at $255million) of Nigeria’s demand for fruit juice was filled by imports. Interestingly, this growth in the juice market seemed to defy the poor performance indices the Nigerian economy has been recording.

How to Make Fresh Mango Juice

If you're lucky enough to have access to fresh mangoes, create your own sweet mango juice! You can easily customize the flavor and texture of the juice. To make creamy mango juice, blend the fruit with a little milk and sugar. If you want the natural flavor of the fruit to really shine, blend mango chunks with water. For truly unique mango juice, blend in other fruits, spices, or juices. Try several and discover your favorite mango juice combinations!

  • 6 large mangos or 5 cups (525 g) of mango chunks
  • 4 cups (950 ml) of water or milk
  • 3 tablespoons (36 g) of sugar, optional
  • 1/2 cup (70 g) of ice cubes, optional

Makes 4 to 5 servings

Blending the Mango Juice

Step 1 Chop the mangoes...

  • Ensure that there's no peel on any of the chunks.
  • You may need a different number of mangoes depending on the size and variety of mangoes. For example, Alphonso mangoes are smaller, so you might need a few more of them.
  • Try substituting coconut milk for the water or milk if you'd like another non-dairy option.
  • You can use your favorite sweetener, such as honey or agave, or leave out sweetener altogether if the mangoes are very sweet.

Tip: If you want the juice to have a frosty and frothy texture, add 1/2 cup (70 g) of ice cubes before you blend the juice.

  • Discard the pulp once you've finished straining the juice.
  • If your mangoes were smooth or you don't mind thicker juice, you can skip straining it.

Step 5 Pour the mango juice into serving glasses.

  • You can cover the pitcher of mango juice and refrigerate it for up to 2 days. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can add to the juice to extend its storage time. For longer-term storage, consider freezing the juice for up to 4 months.

Trying Variations

Step 1 Add other juices to make a mango juice cocktail.

  • Play around with adding other fresh herbs. You could use different varieties of basil, such as lemon basil or spicy basil.

Tip: You can also add your favorite seasonings, such as dried ginger, ground cardamom, or cinnamon. Try adding 1/2 teaspoon (1 g) of spice to your mango juice. Then, taste it and add more spice according to your taste.

Step 3 Stir in plain yogurt to make a mango lassi.

  • Substitute soy yogurt for a non-dairy mango lassi.
  • Use flavored yogurt if you like an even sweeter lassi. Try mango, strawberry, peach, or vanilla yogurt, for instance.

Step 4 Mix the mango juice with lemonade to make tangy mango lemonade.

  • To play around with flavors, try mixing the mango juice with limeade.

Step 5 Blend in fresh fruits or vegetables to make a nutritious mango smoothie.

  • To make the mango smoothie even creamier, add 1/2 of an avocado.

Community Q&A

Community Answer

  • If you can't find fresh mangoes in season, check your store's freezer case. You should be able to find frozen bags of mango chunks. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0

Tips from our Readers

  • Blend the mangos with some lime juice and ice cubes to make a slushy drink. Then, pour it into a glass and add chamoy and Tajin to make a mangonada!
  • Don't add too much sugar, or the mango juice will lose its fruity flavor.
  • Add 2 to 3 drops of lemon juice before blending to brighten the flavor.

Writing a business plan for a small juice company

Table of Contents

Describing your business

Unique selling point, finding your audience, market research, customer profiles, swot analysis, opportunities, assuring health and safety standards, providing financial projections, countingup is the perfect ingredient for healthy finances.

Before turning your passion for fruits into a successful juice company, it may helpful to consider putting together a business plan . Having one let’s you seek funding opportunities from potential investors or approach a bank for a loan. A plan in place also allows you to compare your performance in the future with what you expected initially.

To give you the relevant information you need in your business plan for a juice company, this guide covers:

  • SWOT analysis for the company

The first section of your business plan should be used to explain what your company does. There are two main points to consider including: your unique selling point and your brand.

Your USP (unique selling point) is the reason that customers would choose to buy juice from you instead of another business. Whatever makes your product different (your flavours, ingredients or process, for example), describe it in your plan.

When writing your business, you should also explain and display your branding . The brand should provide your business with an identity of its own. You will likely want to build loyalty from your customers for your juice company. Having a solid brand is a great way to do that.

Branding covers a few areas for your business. The name of your company, logo, fonts, colour scheme and tone of voice can all be outlined in your brand guidelines . Putting together guidelines shows potential investors the ability of the company to market itself.

Another essential section to put into your business plan is to explain who your company is going to target. To find out who would be best to target, you want to complete market research and then use a customer profile to describe them.

By carrying out market research for your business, you gain more of an understanding of the people who you would like to buy juice from you. You may have a broad or narrow audience for your product, but without research, you could miss out on critical insights that would help your brand.

To carry out the research, you can either look for first-hand knowledge by speaking directly to audiences (for example interview people and ask them how they would respond to your company) or second-hand from looking into potential competitors to see who they target (for example check other juice brands’ social media platforms and judge who is likely to use them).

Putting together customer profiles (sometimes called customer avatars) helps define your target audience in a way that is easy to imagine. This will help explain who they are in your plan and give you some insight into your future marketing. You will think about the best channels to use based on your profiles.

To put together a customer profile, detail a hypothetical person based on your market research. Write a summary about their lifestyles, including details like their name, age, location and occupation.

Your business plan needs to convince investors or lenders that your company will succeed. Using a SWOT analysis that focuses on your strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities can show that you have considered every area of your venture.

Explaining why your business should succeed provides some key points to highlight as your strengths. You may have previous experience selling juice at a stall before you set up the company, for example.

Detailing the weaknesses of your business gives the impression that you are realistic and proactive towards improvements. Mention areas you may be unfamiliar with and why you would do to overcome that. For example, if you have little experience in finance say that you plan to use an accounting tool like Countingup to make it easier.

There will likely be potential opportunities for your business to take advantage of in the future. Mentioning these in your plan shows that you are enterprising. For example, with more people working from home in 2022, you plan to trial a delivery service later in the year.

There is a likelihood of possible threats for any business that you would have to overcome. You can also mention what you will avoid or handle that situation by identifying some. For example, if the costs of getting imported fruits rise, you would bring out a new locally sourced line of juices for which you could possibly charge a higher price.

To reassure potential investors that you will meet health and safety standards, you could detail the plans you have in place following UK Government guidelines .

You should mention what your plans are for:

  • Handling your drinks
  • Preparing drinks
  • How drinks will be stored
  • Keeping the facilities clean

You can also mention other measures you intend to take to ensure that customers are safe to consume your drinks. For example, by clearly labelling all of the ingredients in each juice so that if someone has an allergy to something, they can avoid it.

Many investors and lenders will look closely at the financial information you put in your business plan. As a result, it would be helpful to include your estimated sales for the following month, quarter or year.

To display your projected sales, consider using a sales forecast . Through your market research, you may find information on how many customers other juice companies have a month.

Estimate the number of customers to expect. Then, by multiplying this figure by the prices you intend to charge for drinks, it should leave you with a forecast for the amount of money you expect to see from sales.

To make sure that your juice company can provide financial projections in your plan, it would be useful to set up a separate account and use accounting software.

Countingup is the business current account with built-in accounting software that allows you to manage your financial data in one place. It includes expense categorisation which will automatically put relevant costs together, helpful for keeping finances organised.

When comparing your business performance with your plan later on, Countingup also provides business reports which give you all the information that you need to know. Seamless, simple and straightforward!

Sample Fresh Fruit Juice Production Business Plan

Agro-allied industries/businesses like juice production are massive.

There is a huge market for juice products. If you have considered venturing into this line of business, you will find this fresh fruit juice production business plan useful.

We have stripped it of all complications to enable you to follow its simplified structure. This allows you to have a workable and practical plan in setting your fruit business in motion.

As a new fresh fruit juice business, you can choose to do one of two things; first, you may either choose to focus on producing specific types of juices with a restricted number of fruits or you can go all out. “All out” as used in this sense means including all types of fruits in your juice production.

Here is a sample business plan for starting a fresh fruit juice production company.

Starting a Fresh Juice Company

I will be discussing with you in this post how you can start afresh juice business and make good money in the long term. The making of fresh juice is a very lucrative business that any entrepreneur that wants to venture into the food industry needs to consider.

Many people love to drink fresh fruit juice that flavor and other preservatives have not been added because of its mineral and vitamins and the health benefits it gives to the body.

I just want to take every iota of doubt you may be having in your mind to share with you why I know and not just think to start a cold press juice business is a good business opportunity for any serious entrepreneur:

  • The Demand is High

The consumption of fresh juice in different ways and form is very in the fruit juice food market. It is a widely accepted drink in many homes as they even use it to entertain their visitors. People use it in celebrating birthdays, anniversary, wedding ceremonies and many occasions.

Doctors will always advise people that they should take fresh juice if they must stay healthy. It is also one of the drinks prescribed by doctors if you are wanting to bring something for a sick patient in the hospital.

Also, fresh juice is highly consumed by both alcohol and non-alcoholic drinkers. This makes the product highly needed.

  • For the nutritional Benefits

Ailments such as cold can be treated by drinking fresh juice in its natural form. The awareness and concern of what these artificial juices are doing in our bodies are now of great concern and causing a shift in the way people drink the juice.

Sales of fizzy drinks are going down and sales of fresh juice are going sky high. This is making fizzy drinks manufacturers consider branching into fresh juice business .

  • Raw Materials Are Readily Available

Fresh fruit can be cultivated in good loamy soil and you either buy or get a plot of land for lease and plant these fruits for your business purpose. Various fruits like Pawpaw, Mango, Orange, Pineapple, Watermelon can be grown with low capital. They are also sold in the market too if you want to get them directly.

Without further ado, let’s jump straight to business;

For those that have ventured into the juice bar business , they by now have juiced lots of profit into their bank account.

Here are what you need to do to join the club:

A Plan of Action

No business will thrive without definite action plans geared towards growth. Hence, your business plan becomes invaluable towards achieving growth. Some of the vital areas a plan should include are an analysis of your possible competition, partnerships (such as those with vendors), a three-year profit projection, operational or running costs for a time duration until the business stabilizes.

By expanding on these areas of your business, you can set forth a plan that is workable and implementable. Also, your business goals are easily achieved once there is a well laid out plan on how to achieve them.

A good plan should include 5 years’ operating expenses and projected income. You can search for samples if you don’t have any idea of what should entail inside a business plan.

If you can get any samples, you can go to freelancing sites to hire someone or better still a business consultant to create one for you. Your startup plan must not be a dictionary size; a maximum of the 5-page well-written plan will serve both for getting loans or winning angel investors.

  • Study Successful Fruit Juice Production Business

By learning from the best, you can become the best. For you not to run into confusion on your journey to starting afresh juice business, you need to go and study successful fresh juice business and analyze their products and their marketing strategies.

Analyze their top-selling products and their target market. Also, study their marketing strategies on how they reach out to their customers and their packaging.

  • Choosing your Fresh Fruit Juice Niche

All fresh fruit juice production falls under a niche. You need to choose which niche best suites your expertise as well as the needs of your target market. Termed as the “new-age beverages,” fresh fruit juice niches include juice smoothies, energy juices, organic juices, and bottled juices.

Fresh fruit juice production comes with innovations especially in flavor blends, functional benefits, calories as well as different levels of sweetness. With these, you should be able to classify your fresh fruit juice business.

  • Purchasing the Right Equipment

Equipment is an important part of running a successful fresh fruit juice business. So, what is this equipment?

They include sugarcane juicers, citrus juicers, vegetable and fruit juices, mixers, commercial blenders, and the CP-150 Cold Press juicers. Others include ice machines, refrigerators and coolers, prep tools (such as knives, portion scales, measuring cups, cutting boards, and peelers, etc) and sinks.

These are some of the basic tools necessary for starting a fresh fruit juice production business. The specific types of equipment required to depend on your preferred niche.

  • Adhering to Regulatory Standards

This is a very important consideration when setting up a fresh fruit juice business. Depending on where your business is located, each state has its regulations regarding the sale of juice. This covers the production and sale of locally made (raw juice) juice as well as production for wholesale.

Different regulations apply to both. In any case, contacting your state’s health agency or department is the best way of knowing what is required.

  • Suppliers and Distributors are Important

This is an important part of your fresh fruit juice business you do not want to overlook. These form the fulcrum over which your business rotates. Every fresh fruit juice production business depends on these two. Your suppliers are those who provide you with a steady supply of fruits and vegetables. These are essential to the survival of any fresh fruit juice business.

If cultivating a fruit farm will be too much for you in terms of capital and managing the farm and workers, you can go find a trusted vendor for supply. Find a vendor close to you so you can save on transportation.

On the other hand are the distributors. If you are a raw juice seller, this will not be very much relevant to your business. This is because you are making and selling your fresh fruit juice directly to your customers.

However, for fresh fruit juice production businesses with wholesale operations, distributors are very vital to its success. These include vendors and retailers who purchase from you to sell to end consumers.

  • Create your Recipes for your Fresh Juice Business

To beat the competition in the fresh juice business niche, you have to come up with your recipes and flavor that is not common in grocery stores. A distinctive menu on your juice can give customers reasons to want to patronize your business. You won’t be in business for long if your fresh juice tastes normal like every other brand’s fresh juice.

  • Location and Marketing your Fresh Juice Business

Fresh fruit juice production businesses thrive on both location and marketing. You may want to take these two seriously as the success of your business rests on them. By location, we mean selecting an area with the highest number of possible clients. People who are health conscious are likely to form a bulk of your clients.

When looking for a good location for your fresh juice business, you need to consider nearness to raw materials as well as nearness to your target market. You can go for a roadside stand or flea markets.

You can alternatively bottle your fresh juice and sell them wholesale to restaurants, fitness centers, café, and grocery stores. This is just a business idea you can think about.

Therefore your business should be close to busy areas such as sports arenas, beaches, health clubs, gyms, hotels, and airports. This is likely to impact positively on sales.

While producing quality juices, you also need to get the word out. Marketing is the process through which this is achieved. By starting a loyalty program, you can reward patronage with attractive discounts for subsequent purchases/orders made.

Advertise your business using flyers, billboards and television and radio commercials so families can know your business exists and may want to give it a try. You use different promotional strategies like sponsoring a fitness day or fair.

Using social media networks should also be part of your marketing strategies to pull in traffic to your website. Your market is huge so, try to make sure your message travels far.

  • Buying a Franchise

If you feel you have little patience for starting afresh juice production business from scratch, then buying a franchise may be the best option. As a franchise owner, you are given basic training on how to successfully run a profitable business. This eliminates the learning curve involved and enhances your chances of growing the business.

  • Know What Your Customers Need

Most times it is tempting to assume you know the needs of your customers. However, this is not true. Customer preferences can change. It is necessary to know the fresh fruit juice products that attract the most patronage. Doing a little research into customer preferences will help a lot.

This fresh fruit juice production business plan sample has provided a lot of helpful tips for the beginner. You can follow these ideas to set up a thriving fresh fruit juice business. No business will succeed without a definite plan of action. Its detailed and diligent implementation greatly enhances your chances of success as well.

This plan contains different sections that are important to how successful your juice business becomes.

However, it is important to sound a note of caution here; a sound business plan in itself does not result in a good business. Active and diligent implementation is necessary for real progress. And now, our fresh juice business plan sample;

Different factors will contribute to the stability of our business. We have carried out a SWOT assessment to identify our areas of strength and weakness as a business. This is to enable us to focus our energy on building a solid business while knowing and limiting our risk exposure. The following are findings from this assessment;

The experience of our founder Rene Mathews in the food services sector is a strong point for us. As a food scientist, she has a deeper understanding of how the industry works as well as what combinations are most healthy for customers.

We are starting with state-of-the-art equipment.

This will ensure that all types of fresh fruit juices are easily made.

The fruit juice industry is one that has seen a lot of entrants lately. Among the participants are major and stronger businesses with regional and national coverage. This presents us with formidable competitions.

However, we are not overwhelmed by this fact. We will exploit our areas of strength to establish a growing business that will eventually break into the top tier.

  • Opportunities

A lot of people take fresh fruit juice. Many do so due to its health benefits while others take them for a treat. Whatever the reasons are, the fact remains that there is a huge demand for fresh fruit juice products. We are poised to meet this demand by positioning ourselves as strategic players by developing new recipes.

Aggressive competition is a threat we may likely face. This may involve sharp practices that may arise from competing businesses. Economic recession is also a likely threat we may face. This does not happen frequently but still presents a threat to our business.

  • Target Market

The target market for our fresh juice business is wide. Almost everyone loves to have some fresh juice. This is a good thing for us as there is a big market for our products. These will be sold to tourists, students, sportsmen, and women, etc.

In short, these will be sold to both young and old.

  • Competitive Advantage

There is a tight competition in the fresh fruit industry. However, this does not mean that there are not opportunities to be taken advantage of. We have concluded arrangements with suppliers of fresh fruits to supply fresh and affordable products. These are discounted to allow us to get a fair profit margin.

Also, our group of highly experienced workforce will bring their knowledge and experience to bear on the job. This is of utmost importance to the success of our business.

  • Sales Projection

Our projected sales over 3 years have revealed great potentials. Current realities in the industry have been used at arriving at these figures. These are summarized in the chart below;

  • First Financial Year $200,000.00
  • Second Financial Year $350,000.00
  • Third Financial Year $780,000.00

Starting a Fruit Juice Business

Updated on : May 2nd, 2022

In India, the demand for the fresh fruit juice business has increased lately. A fruit juice business or shop is an excellent opportunity for entrepreneurs to start a new business with low investment. The growing demand for fresh fruit juices in India is due to a change in lifestyle and the need for clean and hygienic fruit juices in India.

Many people prefer freshly squeezed or bottled juice without added flavours, colours and preservatives, making the fruit juice business a great business opportunity. The fresh fruit juice industry is an unorganised and untapped sector in India. Hence, many new entrepreneurs have been able to create large businesses and fruit juice brands quickly like RAWpressery, B Natural, and PaperBoat.

The investment in raw materials or capital equipment for the fruit juice business could be high or low depending on the business scale. But, generally, the fruit juice business has low capital investment, owing to high-profit margins.

Fruit Juice Business Model

An entrepreneur can enter into the organised fresh fruit juice business in two ways, which are as follows:

Establishing Fresh Fruit Juice Shop

Minimum capital is required to establish a fresh fruit juice shop or a chain of juice shops. Typically a small juice shop can be established with a seating capacity of around 10-20 with an investment of about 10-15 lakhs. There are also several options available to open a franchise unit of an already established chain of juice shops.

The entrepreneur can also provide snacks and food items along with fresh fruit juice in the shop to make the business more profitable and generate additional income. The scalability limits of a juice shop and its success largely depend on its location. The demand for a juice shop is high in areas like canteens, airports, fitness centres and malls.

Establishing Pre-Packaged Juice Business

In India, pre-packaged or bottled fruit juices are replacing traditional unorganised juice shops. The development in cold chains, food processing technology and packing methodologies have created an environment where fresh fruit juice can be transported, manufactured, and distributed across India while maintaining its freshness.

Also, the current trend of eating fresh and healthy is driving people towards a lifestyle change, and many are finding an alternative in fresh fruit juice to fizzy or bottled drinks. Since pre-packaged juice businesses offer better hygienic conditions and nutritional value, the trend of pre-packaged fruit juices is increasing, leading to the creation of several juice businesses that are highly scalable.

However, establishing a successful pre-packed juice business requires high investment in raw material, equipment, branding, and distribution.

Process Involved in Starting Fruit Juice Business

The following process is involved in starting a fruit juice business in India:

Determine business model

The first step is to decide on the business model of the fruit juice business. The entrepreneur must choose whether to set up a fruit juice shop or a pre-packed juice business. The entrepreneur can look into the factors such as capital investment, location of the business, fruit juice recipes, the process of making the juice, etc., to decide on the business model. When the investment is low, it is better to start with a fresh fruit juice shop and then gradually expand the business to a pre-packed juice business.

Determine the niche

The entrepreneur must decide on the niche for his/her juice business. The niche is the specialised market the entrepreneur wants to target, such as selling energy juice, organic juices, bottled juices or juice smoothies. The entrepreneur needs to study the market, profitability, and competition before selecting the niche.

Prepare a business plan

An entrepreneur must prepare a business plan for the business. While preparing the business plan, the entrepreneur must keep in mind the niche of the business, expected earnings, operating expenses, marketing, public relations strategies and analysis of competing businesses. It helps entrepreneurs to find solutions when they confront a problem or difficulty. A good business plan will keep the entrepreneurs informed about the financial goals and business fluctuations.

Select a location

The entrepreneur must select a location to open a fruit juice shop or establish a pre-packed fruit juice unit. While choosing the location, an entrepreneur must look into the availability of many essential features, such as water supply, road connectivity, electricity, and the existing workforce in that location. The entrepreneur must also decide whether to set up shop in a self-owned property or home or take the shop premises on rent.

Licence and registration for a fruit juice business

An entrepreneur must obtain various licences and registration from the appropriate authorities to run a fruit juice business in India. The fruit juice business can be shut down when the entrepreneurs do not have the required licences or registrations.

The FSSAI licence and GST registration are compulsory to start a fruit juice business. An entrepreneur must obtain a licence from the municipal corporation of the area. The entrepreneur must also register the business for it to be legally recognised. All the licences and registrations applicable for a fruit juice business in India are explained in detail below.

Buy equipment and supplies

Various raw materials and equipment are required for running a fruit juice business. The entrepreneurs must buy commercial-grade juicers or juice extractors to make juice in huge quantities. A fruit juice business needs supplies like cups, utensils and napkins. Washing equipment, measuring instruments, packets, empty bottles, labels, fruits, sugar, etc., are some of the raw materials required for a fruit juice business.

Market the business

Marketing is an essential aspect of any business. The entrepreneurs can market their fruit juice business through various marketing strategies such as sending news releases to local media outlets, launching a promotional website, sponsoring a fitness day or health fair, or opening social networking accounts.

Fruit Juice Business Registration in India

An entrepreneur needs to obtain different licences and registrations to start a fruit juice business in India. The required licences and registrations for establishing a fruit juice business in India are as follows:

Business registration

The first step to establishing a fruit juice business is to obtain registration for that business from the appropriate authority. A juice business should be set up as a recognised legal entity such as a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), partnership firm, proprietorship firm or company.

An entrepreneur can register his/her fruit juice business as a One Person Company (OPC), private limited company or LLP by applying to the Registrar of Companies. It can be started as a partnership firm by applying for firm registration with the Registrar of Firms. It can also be established as a sole proprietorship.

FSSAI licence

The FSSAI licence is mandatory to start a fruit juice business in India. Every juice business and juice shop must register with the Department of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The turnover and manufacturing capacity of the juice business determines whether the juice business is eligible to obtain an FSSAI registration or FSSAI licence.

In addition to the FSSAI registration or licence, testing bottled juices for various compliance and parameters with food labelling regulations are mandated by FSSAI to ensure that the food product is safe for consumption.

GST registration

After implementing the GST law in India, all businesses eligible to obtain GST registration under the GST law must apply for GST registration. Thus, if the juice business turnover is covered under the GST law or carrying out business through an e-commerce platform, it must mandatorily obtain GST registration.

Business licence

The juice business must mandatorily obtain a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the local authority where the business is situated. The local authority may be the municipality or municipal council.

Registration under Shop and Establishment Act

A fruit juice business must obtain registration under the Shops and Establishment Act by applying to the respective state authority. The shop and establishment registration is issued by the labour department of the state where the business is located. The Act states that it is mandatory to obtain the shop and establishment registration for establishing a shop or a commercial establishment.

Trademark registration

The entrepreneurs of the fruit juice business can apply for trademark registration. Though trademark registration is not compulsory, it is better to obtain this registration as it protects the brand name and logo of the fruit juice business. It also ensures that the business logo and brand are not used by any other company or person and grants protection in such a case.

A new or an existing fresh fruit juice business with a unique name or brand should obtain a trademark registration. It ensures that the brand is original and the business is franchisable in the future.

MSME registration

The government provides various benefits to businesses having an MSME registration. A micro, small and medium enterprise can apply for MSME registration. Fruit juice businesses having an annual turnover of less than Rs.250 crores and investments of less than Rs.50 crore can apply for MSME registration.

Since fruit juice businesses are started with less investment and turnover, they will be eligible to obtain MSME registration. It is not mandatory registration, but it is advisable as the business benefits from various schemes introduced by the government for small industries, such as easy access to capital, tax benefits, low-interest rates on loans, etc.

Rising dietary and health concerns among consumers is one the key factors giving a push to the global fruit juice market. Owing to the high nutritional content and refreshing attributes of fruit juices, there has been a major shift in consumer preferences from carbonated drinks to the non-carbonates and natural beverages like fruit juices. Several other factors like population growth, rising disposable incomes, product innovations, premiumization and growing demand from emerging markets are also inducing the growth of the global market for fruit juices.

Changes in lifestyles and awareness regarding the consumption of a healthy and balanced diet have steered the growth of the global juice market. As a result of the growing consumption of vegetable and fruit juice, the global market for juice is likely to witness strong growth over the forthcoming years. In the beverage industry, juices constitute the most competitive segment.

Regionally, the global juice market is segmented into Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, Europe, Asia Pacific, and North America. Manufacturers of juice are likely to gain lucrative growth opportunities from the growing consumption of orange juice in developed countries. What Is a Business Plan?

A business plan provides a snapshot of your juice or smoothie bar as it stands today, and lays out your growth plan for the next five years. It explains your business goals and your strategy for reaching them. It also includes market research to support your plans.

Why You Need a Business Plan

juice bar planning

Source of Funding for Juice Bars & Smoothie Bars

With regards to funding, the main sources of funding for a juice bar are personal savings, credit cards, bank loans and angel investors. With regards to bank loans, banks will want to review your business plan and gain confidence that you will be able to repay your loan and interest. To acquire this confidence, the loan officer will not only want to confirm that your financials are reasonable. But they will want to see a professional plan. Such a plan will give them the confidence that you can successfully and professionally operate a business.

The second most common form of funding for a juice bar is angel investors . Angel investors are wealthy individuals who will write you a check. They will either take equity in return for their funding, or, like a bank, they will give you a loan. VC funding is not appropriate for a juice bar. Venture capitalists might consider funding a chain, but never an individual location. This is because most venture capitalists are looking for millions of dollars in return when they make an investment, and an individual location could never achieve such results.

Finish Your Business Plan Today!

Juice bar business plan template.

Your business plan should include 10 sections as follows:

Executive Summary

carrot juice

The goal of your Executive Summary is to quickly engage the reader. Explain to them the type of juice bar you are operating and the status; for example, are you a startup, do you have a juice bar that you would like to grow, or are you operating a chain of juice bars.

Next, provide an overview of each of the subsequent sections of your plan. For example, give a brief overview of the juice bar industry. Discuss the type of juice bar you are operating. Detail your direct competitors. Give an overview of your target customers. Provide a snapshot of your marketing plan. Identify the key members of your team. And offer an overview of your financial plan.

Company Analysis

In your company analysis, you will detail the type of juice bar you are operating.

For example, you might operate one of the following types:

  • Take-Out or Drive Through : this type of juice bar doesn’t have seating and is mostly visited by customers looking to grab a juice on their way to the gym or elsewhere.
  • Café : this type of juice bar typically has a more formal setting and will serve juice, smoothies, and some food items such as fruit bowls.

In addition to explaining the type of juice bar you operate, the Company Analysis section of your business plan needs to provide background on the business.

Include answers to question such as:

  • When and why did you start the business?
  • What milestones have you achieved to date? Milestones could include sales goals you’ve reached, new store openings, etc.
  • Your legal structure. Are you incorporated as an S-Corp? An LLC? A sole proprietorship? Explain your legal structure here.

Industry Analysis

smoothie fruit business plan

While this may seem unnecessary, it serves multiple purposes.

First, researching the juice bar industry educates you. It helps you understand the market in which you are operating.

Secondly, market research can improve your strategy particularly if your research identifies market trends. For example, if there was a trend towards juice cleanse regimens, it would be helpful to ensure your plan calls for plenty of juice regimen options.

The third reason for market research is to prove to readers that you are an expert in your industry. By conducting the research and presenting it in your plan, you achieve just that.

The following questions should be answered in the industry analysis section of your juice bar business plan:

  • How big is the juice bar business (in dollars)?
  • Is the market declining or increasing?
  • Who are the key competitors in the market?
  • Who are the key suppliers in the market?
  • What trends are affecting the industry?
  • What is the industry’s growth forecast over the next 5 – 10 years?
  • What is the relevant market size? That is, how big is the potential market for your juice bar. You can extrapolate such a figure by assessing the size of the market in the entire country and then applying that figure to your local population.

Customer Analysis

The customer analysis section of your juice bar business plan must detail the customers you serve and/or expect to serve.

The following are examples of customer segments: college students, sports enthusiasts, soccer moms, millennials, etc.

As you can imagine, the customer segment(s) you choose will have a great impact on the type of juice bar you operate. For example, sports enthusiasts might want different product options, and would respond to different marketing promotions than soccer moms.

Try to break out your target customers in terms of their demographic and psychographic profiles. With regards to demographics, include a discussion of the ages, genders, locations and income levels of the customers you seek to serve. Because most juice bars primarily serve customers living in their same city or town, such demographic information is easy to find on government websites.

Psychographic profiles explain the wants and needs of your target customers. The more you can understand and define these needs, the better you will do in attracting and retaining your customers.

Juice Bar Competitive Analysis

juices and smoothies

Direct competitors are other juice bars.

Indirect competitors are other options that customers have to purchase from that aren’t direct competitors. This includes restaurants, supermarkets and customers making juice themselves at home. You need to mention such competition to show you understand that not everyone who drinks juice or smoothies frequents a juice bar each day.

With regards to direct competition, you want to detail the other juice bars with which you compete. Most likely, your direct competitors will be juice bars located very close to your location.

For each such competitor, provide an overview of their businesses and document their strengths and weaknesses. Unless you once worked at your competitors’ businesses, it will be impossible to know everything about them. But you should be able to find out key things about them such as:

  • What types of customers do they serve?
  • What products do they offer?
  • What is their pricing (premium, low, etc.)?
  • What are they good at?
  • What are their weaknesses?

With regards to the last two questions, think about your answers from the customers’ perspective. And don’t be afraid to stand outside your competitors’ locations and ask customers as they leave what they like most and least about them.

The final part of your competitive analysis section is to document your areas of competitive advantage. For example:

  • Will you provide superior juice/smoothie products?
  • Will you provide products that your competitors don’t offer?
  • Will you make it easier or faster for customers to acquire your products?
  • Will you provide better customer service?
  • Will you offer better pricing?

Think about ways you will outperform your competition and document them in this section of your plan.

Marketing Plan

lime juice

Product : in the product section you should reiterate the type of juice bar that you documented in your Company Analysis. Then, detail the specific products you will be offering. For example, will you offer items such as protein drinks or acai bowls? Will you offer fresh baked goods? Will you offer packaged food items for sale (e.g., protein bars, cookies)? Will you offer smoothies, fresh squeezed juices or both)? Etc.

Price : Document the prices you will offer and how they compare to your competitors. Essentially in the product and price sub-sections of your marketing plan, you are presenting the menu items you offer and their prices.

Place : Place refers to the location of your juice bar. Document your location and mention how the location will impact your success. For example, is your juice bar located next to a heavily populated office building, or gym, etc. Discuss how your location might provide a steady stream of customers. Also, if you operate or plan to operate kiosks, detail the locations where the kiosks will be placed.

Promotions : the final part of your juice bar marketing plan is the promotions section. Here you will document how you will drive customers to your location(s). The following are some promotional methods you might consider:

  • Making your juice bar’s storefront extra appealing to attract passing customers
  • Distributing juice samples outside the juice bar
  • Advertising in local papers and magazines
  • Reaching out to local bloggers and websites
  • Social media marketing
  • Partnerships with local organizations (e.g., gym members get a free shot of wheatgrass with their purchase)
  • Local radio advertising
  • Banner ads at local venues

Operations Plan

While the earlier sections of your business plan explained your goals, your operations plan describes how you will meet them. Your operations plan should have two distinct sections as follows.

Everyday short-term processes include all of the tasks involved in running your juice bar such as training employees, serving customers, procuring supplies, keeping the store clean, etc.

Long-term goals are the milestones you hope to achieve. These could include the dates when you expect to serve your 1,000th customer, or when you hope to reach $X in sales. It could also be when you expect to hire your Xth employee or launch a new location.

Management Team

To demonstrate your juice bar’s ability to succeed as a business, a strong management team is essential. Highlight your key players’ backgrounds, emphasizing those skills and experiences that prove their ability to grow a company.

Ideally you and/or your team members have direct experience in the juice bar business. If so, highlight this experience and expertise. But also highlight any experience that you think will help your business succeed.

If your team is lacking, consider assembling an advisory board. An advisory board would include 2 to 8 individuals who would act like mentors to your business. They would help answer questions and provide strategic guidance. If needed, look for advisory board members with experience in juice bars and/or successfully running retail and small businesses.

Financial Plan

juice servings

Income Statement : an income statement is more commonly called a Profit and Loss statement or P&L. It shows your revenues and then subtracts your costs to show whether you turned a profit or not.

In developing your income statement, you need to devise assumptions. For example, will you serve 100 customers per day or 200? And will sales grow by 2% or 10% per year? As you can imagine, your choice of assumptions will greatly impact the financial forecasts for your business. As much as possible, conduct research to try to root your assumptions in reality.

Balance Sheets : While balance sheets include much information, to simplify them to the key items you need to know about, balance sheets show your assets and liabilities. For instance, if you spend $100,000 on building out your juice bar, that will not give you immediate profits. Rather it is an asset that will hopefully help you generate profits for years to come. Likewise, if a bank writes you a check for $100.000, you don’t need to pay it back immediately. Rather, that is a liability you will pay back over time.

Cash Flow Statement : Your cash flow statement will help determine how much money you need to start or grow your business, and make sure you never run out of money. What most entrepreneurs and business owners don’t realize is that you can turn a profit but run out of money and go bankrupt.

In developing your Income Statement and Balance Sheets be sure to include several of the key costs needed in starting or growing a juice bar:

  • Location build-out including design fees, construction, etc.
  • Cost of equipment like blenders, refrigerators, etc.
  • Cost of fixtures like tables, chairs, a menu board, etc.
  • Cost of ingredients and maintaining an adequate amount of supplies
  • Payroll or salaries paid to staff
  • Business insurance
  • Taxes and permits
  • Legal expenses

Attach your full financial projections in the appendix of your plan along with any supporting documents that make your plan more compelling. For example, you might include your store design blueprint or location lease.

Juice Bar Business Plan Summary

Putting together a business plan for your juice bar is a worthwhile endeavor. If you follow the template above, by the time you are done, you will truly be an expert. You will really understand the juice bar business, your competition and your customers. You will have developed a marketing plan and will really understand what it takes to launch and grow a successful juice bar.

Mango Export Business Plan [Sample Template]

By: Author Tony Martins Ajaero

Home » Business Plans » Import & Export

Are you about starting a mango exporting business? If YES, here is a complete sample mango export business plan template and feasibility report you can use for FREE .

Okay, so we have considered all the requirements for starting a mango exporting business. We also took it further by analyzing and drafting a sample mango export business marketing plan template backed up by actionable guerrilla marketing ideas for mango exporting businesses. So let’s proceed to the business planning section.

Why Start a Mango Export Business?

Mango, known as the king of fruits is the favorite fruit of a lot of people not only in Nigeria but globally as well. Asides from the sweetness of the fruit, mangoes are believed to have medicinal properties that can cure ailments. Also, there are various uses of mangoes in the food industry, health industry and the beauty industry.

Starting a mango exporting business is therefore one of the most lucrative businesses that a serious minded entrepreneur can start up and in no time start making profit.

However, exporting the fruit is quite different from selling the fruit locally and a number of things have to be put in place before your mangoes can be exported out of Nigeria to countries in Europe, united kingdom, North America, Middle East and the United Arab Emirates, where there is a high demand for it.

One of the requirements you would need to fulfill before getting started as a mango exporter is in registering with the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), where you will then be given a certificate and an access to foreign buyers. The council will also help you with information such as the best way to preserve and package your mangoes for exporting in line with the international food laws of the countries you would be exporting to.

You will also need to establish a business relationship with any local bank here in Nigeria that handles international business, as the bank will help you handle the transactions and ensure that your credit remains afloat. Another important aspect that should not be overlooked is a business plan. If you cannot write a business plan yourself, below is one that has been written for you.

A Sample Mango Export Business Plan Template

1. industry overview.

To successfully run a mango exporting business, you need to know all the kinds of mangoes that exist, so that you would know which ones are peculiar to Nigeria and which countries would want the mangoes that are being grown in Nigeria, before going into the export business.

Mangoes are classified into known types like Amelia, Julie, Kent, Ruby, Alphonso and Apple Haden. All these types of mangoes grow in Nigeria depending on the climatic condition as well as the prevailing agricultural practice in the area.

Mangoes are medicinal contrary to popular belief that they are just a sweet fruit. Every part of mango, from the bark, leaves, pit or skin has been used as remedies for some sort of ailments. The medicinal properties of this sweet fruit can perform such functions as; contraceptive, laxative, cardio-tonic, aphrodisiac, anti-septic, expectorant, anti-parasitic, cough, anti-asthmatic et al.

The climatic condition here in Nigeria has tripled the country’s potentials over other suppliers of mango globally. Even though the input cost is somewhat high, the steady export rate has more than compensated for this. The export price per ton is dependent on the grade of the mango, if it is single, and if it is a slice or concentrate.

Mangoes are also important due to the various other drug and food derivatives that is being sourced from it such as jam, juice, flavors, marmalade, syrup, body products and a host of others.

Even though mangoes are grown in more than 85 countries in the tropical and sub-tropical regions according to research, with over 63 countries exporting over 20 million metric tons, more than 97 percent of what is produced globally is from developing nations such as india and Nigeria.

Nigeria’s position in the global community of countries exporting mangoes as at 2006 was number 8. Most of the states that produce these mangoes for exporting purposes are Kaduna, Benue, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Plateau, Sokoto, Yobe, Adamawa,  Kebbi, Taraba, Niger and the FCT.

The demand for mangoes as seen globally is in response to the increase in demand from Europeans, Middle East and the Arabs.

While the Europeans see mangoes as a fruit that can help with health concerns, the Middle East and Arabs see it as meeting their non-alcoholic dietary needs. According to a market survey conducted by the International Trade Center in Geneva on fresh fruits, it was found that the volume of trade regarding mangoes annually stood at $5 billion.

6. SWOT Analysis

While starting a mango exporting business might be seen to be straightforward and easy, there are certain factors that must be taken into consideration if one is expected to succeed in the business. We have therefore hired the services of a reputable consulting firm here in Apapa – Lagos to help us look through our business concept and determine how likely we are to make an impact in this business once we have started.

Using our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to thoroughly determine how our business would likely fare and compete effectively against our competitors not only here in Lagos but all around Nigeria as well. The therefore of the SWOT analysis that was conducted on behalf of Juicy Mango Exporters Ventures are;

We have several strengths in our favor. The first is that we are offering other services in addition to our core service which has seen us have a larger share of the target market and compete favorably against our competitors.

Also, we have employed those who not only have the necessary experience and competence but are also dedicated to the growth and prominence of our mango exporting business. Our chief executive and owner is one that has the necessary experience and will ensure that we are able to attain all our goals and objectives.

We are a relatively new exporting business and because of this, it is not so easy for us to get a bank that will offer us a line of credit as other already established exporting businesses. Also, even though we have locally sourced for financing to help with our local operations, we do not have enough to compete effectively against already established mango or fruit producers.

Our staff strength is also somewhat limited and this will greatly affect our chances of growth. Also, since we are relatively a new brand, we have to deploy effective publicity strategies that would allow us be seen and known.

  • Opportunities

The opportunities that abound for us in this industry is huge especially as the different services that we would be offering would allow us have a huge share of the target market and the other opportunities that will be made available to us that our international customers have to offer. Our global ranking is enough for us to secure enough opportunities that will allow for the growth of our company.

Every business faces threats every now and then and so the threats that we are likely to face in this mango exporting business is having to deal with changing government policies regarding exports, dealing with falling value of the dollar which will see us not making as much profit as we should, having to deal with the arrival of competitors offering same services to the same target market, and also an economic downturn globally that will cause consumers in the countries we export to, to spend less than they usually do.

  • Market Trends

The trend when it comes to exporting of mangoes is that the mangoes are usually harvested half ripe before being packed for export, this is due to the standard stipulated by the international law on food by America and Europe. This is not to say however that consumers in these countries don’t prefer that imported mangoes ripen with traces of green. Those that distribute these mangoes in foreign countries prefer mangoes that weigh between 225g and 400g.

Exporters often use various ways to ensure that the exported mangoes retain a longer shelf life. Most exporters therefore favor freezing, which allows the fruit to retain its original color and flavor.

Another method is in preserving the fruits with preservative solutions such as brine, sulphur oxide gas and any other approved solutions, even though this increases the shelf life of the mangoes for more months, the color of the mango is usually affected.

8. Our Target Market

Even though the mangoes we source for are to be exported to certain countries, we cannot, without conducting a market survey decide on which countries will be most favorable to us. In this regard we intend to carry out a market survey in order to identify what countries would most likely be beneficial to our business. The aim of the market survey is to enable us understand our target market and know what it is they expect from us.

According to our market survey, those that will be benefiting from our  exported mangoes in the countries that we would be exporting to are; food industries, households, beauty industries, drug industries, supermarkets and grocery stores, government agencies, wholesalers and distributors.

Our competitive advantage

Even though there are a number of people that engage in growing and selling these mangoes locally, there are few who export these mangoes to international customers.

Our vision is to ensure that we become the preferred brand for all our international customers through our quality products and services and to achieve this, we have laid down plans and processes that will allow us have several competitive advantages against our competitors.

Our sourcing, preservation and packaging of mangoes for our internal consumers is one of the competitive advantages we have over our competitors. We have a purchasing manager who knows all the credible suppliers of the best mangoes that were grown organically and how to also get us the best deals.

Our facility is one of the best as we not only ensure that it is kept clean and well ventilated, it is also well secured against theft and bugs, thereby ensuring that our customers get mangoes that haven’t been contaminated in whatever manner.

Also, the fact that we offer additional services is a plus for us against our competitors. Another competitive advantage that we have against our competitors is the fact that our employees come with a vast amount of experience and proficiency and therefore understand how to ensure that a start-up such as ours is able to achieve all its intended goals and objectives, thereby becoming a force to reckon with nationally and internationally.

Our employees fully understand our policies and philosophies and are committed to ensuring that we are able to achieve all that we set out to do.

We intend to ensure that our employees are well taken care of, as their welfare package is the best amongst start-up categories such as ours here in the agro-processing and allied cum agricultural industry. This high pay structure for our employees is one sure way of ensuring that they not only remain committed to our business but remain motivated to work in helping us attain our goals and objectives.

  • Sources of Income

Juicy Mangoes Exporter Ventures is a mango exporting organization that has been established with the sole aim of generating revenue and maximizing profit here in Apapa – Lagos State and we intend to go all the way to ensure that we generate enough profit to not only sustain the business but grow it as well. Therefore our mango exporting organization will generate income by offering the following services;

10. Sales Forecast

Mango is regarded as the king of fruits globally because of the medicinal, dietary and beautification purposes that the fruit offers, and that is why there will always be demand year round from our various customers, which therefore leads to revenue generation and increase for our business.

Our location here in Apapa – Lagos is very strategic as we are very close to the ports and not too far from the airports. This will make us spend less to ensure that our mangoes get to the ports or the airports. This has given us massive advantage over our competitors who are located in the mainland or deep in the islands or even in other states.

We have however carried out critical examination of the agro processing and allied industry cum agricultural industry, in order to determine our chances at succeeding in this business. Our analysis has allowed us to come up with an accurate sales forecast.

Our sales forecast was based on certain information and data garnered from already established mango exporting organizations or new start-ups such as ours. We are therefore confident that we would be able to make profit within the first year of business.

In view of this, the results that were gotten for Juicy mangoes Exporter Ventures based on certain facts and assumptions from similar businesses such as ours here in Lagos and all over Nigeria are below;

  • First Fiscal Year-: N3,000,000
  • Second Fiscal Year-: N5,500,000
  • Third Fiscal Year-: N12,000,000

N.B : The above sales projections were done based on what was obtainable in the industry as at that time and the assumptions used.

The assumptions were that there won’t be a global economic crises and that our naira would remain strong against the dollar. Should any of the prevailing circumstances change, it would lead to an increase or decrease in the figures stated above.

  • Marketing Strategy and Sales Strategy

Marketing for every profit oriented organization is very important because this is one of the major ways that they are able to generate the revenue that would not only sustain but grow the business as well.

Marketing is also used to create awareness for the business which is why any serious organization takes its time to create effective marketing strategies that would best suit the organization as well as ensure that a marketing budget is kept separate to handle all the marketing affairs of the company.

In ensuring that we create the right marketing strategies for our business, we intend to carry out a market survey that will allow us understand the industry we are going into, who our target market is, what they are expecting from us and what we should expect from them as well.

This market survey we intend to carry out would allow us to penetrate the market and get a large share. It would also allow us know how best we can effectively compete against our competitors – either already established mango exporters or ones that are just newly starting up.

Because we intend to have the most effective strategies, we have engaged the services of a reputable and experienced marketing firm here in Lagos State who thoroughly understands the sector we are in and the international stage we intend to play in and who knows the right marketing strategies to help us create marketing strategies that would not only be effective but allow us stand out.

We have also empowered our marketing team to ensure that every marketing strategy created is in line with our corporate sales goal. In view of that, the following are the marketing and sales strategies that we intend to adopt at Juicy Mangoes Exporter Ventures;

  • Formally introduce our company and the services we offer to intending customers and target market from the database given to us by the National Exporting Promotion Council (NEPC)
  • Engage in massive adverts online especially in foreign agriculture and food blogs and websites
  • Create social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin in order to connect with our international audience
  • Deliver consistent customer experience to all our clients and ensure that not only are they satisfied but that they also refer us to others
  • Use the email blast approach to penetrate our target market
  • Create a website and ensure that our services are vigorously promoted and advertised and then pay for a consultant to drive massive traffic to the site

11. Publicity and Advertising Strategy

Having the right publicity strategy is very important for our business because we intend to run a standard mango exporting business here in Apapa – Lagos that will not only stand out but also allow us to compete favorably against our competitors, and so creating the right awareness for our business is a must for us to grow and thrive in this industry.

Due to the fact that we intend to get it right with our international audience, we have hired the services of a reputable publicity and advertising company here in Apapa, who have been long in this business and therefore possess the necessary experience that would allow us not only generate the necessary revenue to grow and maintain our business but also create the awareness that would enable us stand out and positively communicate our brand.

The platforms we therefore intend to use in promoting and advertising our brand include;

  • Place adverts on popular online blogs and websites in order to create awareness about our business
  • Use our social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin to massively promote our business
  • Ensure that our mango exporting business is listed in online directories
  • Pay an SEO consultant and a traffic generating expert to generate more traffic to our website
  • Write for blogs and websites and use that to promote our own business
  • Send emails and e-newsletters to our target market

12. Our Pricing Strategy

There is no need to undergo a detailed deliberation on what our prices for our mangoes would be, as various factors would determine how much we would export our mangoes for. The factors are; the kind of mangoes we would be sourcing for, what purposes the mangoes would be used for, what preservation and packaging method would we use and also what our competitors are charging.

We are also mindful of the fact that our prices would be dependent on the stipulated weight as set by our foreign distributors. The smaller weight would of course come with a less price while the higher weight will be more expensive. This is not to say that we would not offer other complimentary services based on what is obtainable globally.

  • Payment Options

Due to the fact that our customers are global, the payment options that would be made available to them would not be too varied even as it intends to suit all the various preferences that our customers are likely to have. Therefore the payment options that we intend to make available to all our various customers here at Juicy Mangoes Exporters Ventures are;

  • Payment via online bank transfer
  • Payment via online payment portal
  • Payment via PayPal

The above payment options were deliberately chosen for us by our local bank here in Nigeria and would ensure that we are able to conduct our business smoothly without any hitches whatsoever. The payment options are also ones that would be very convenient to all our customers.

13. Startup Expenditure (Budget)

Even though we would not be involved in any production whatsoever, there are still certain capital intensive costs that would be borne by us in the event of running our mango exporting business. We would for instance need to source for mangoes, transport them, rent a facility where we would store and preserve them before exporting them to our customers.

We would also need to pay the employees and also settle certain bills that we would incur during the cause of running the business. While our start-up capital will generally define what scale we would be running our mango exporting business, several costs will still remain in place regardless of the scale we would be on.

Also, the cost of doing business in Lagos must be taken into consideration as an entrepreneur starting this same business elsewhere is likely to spend more or less depending on several factors that would need to be considered. Therefore, below are the requirements that we would need to consider and fulfill when starting our mango export business;

  • Total fee for registering our mango export business as a venture in Lagos State, Nigeria – N25,000
  • Obtaining of the necessary exporting licenses and permits, accounting and inventory software as well as other legal expenses – N20,000
  • Cost of hiring a business consultant – N30,000
  • Insurance coverage (General liability, workers’ compensation, transportation insurance, property insurance ) – N25,000
  • Marketing expenses for the promotion of the grand launching of Juicy Mangoes Exporters Ventures as well as general marketing promotion expenses for at least a year – N50,000
  • Cost of renting a warehousing facility for use for at least two years and carrying out the necessary renovations – N400,000
  • Operational cost for the first three months (salaries of employees as well as payment of bills) – N300,000
  • Cost of purchasing a truck for use for picking mangoes from sources and delivering to ports – N800,000
  • Cost of preserving the mangoes (refrigerator, chemical solutions, local dehydrator) – N500,000
  • Cost of getting a KVA generating set – N300,000
  • Cost of packaging (shelves, racks, cartons and wrappers) – N200,000
  • Other start-up expenses (furniture, computers, printers, signage, cash register, security and phones) – N100,000
  • Cost of launching a website – N25,000
  • Cost of throwing a launching party – N30,000
  • Miscellaneous – N50,000

From the above estimate, we would need the sum of N2,855,000 in order to successfully start-up and run a standard mango export business here in Apapa – Lagos.

It should be noted that the amount will cover renting a facility for the period of two years, buying a truck, sourcing for and preserving the mangoes as well as paying the salaries of employees for at least three months till the business is able to pay them itself.

Generating Funding/Startup Capital for Juicy Mango Exporters Business

Every business requires capital to start running and our exporting business is no different. We know that for our business to become a reality, we would need to source for the necessary finance that would allow us attain all our intended goals and objectives.

While it is not so easy for an entrepreneur to source for funds for his business, it is not something that can be avoided. Juicy Mangoes Exporters Ventures is a mango exporting business that is owned by Alhaji Bintu Ahmed and his immediate family.

Alhaji does not intend to seek external partners for his mango exporting business, which is the reason why he has decided to restrict the sourcing of his start-up capital to just three sources. Therefore the areas where we intend to source for our start-up capital are;

  • Generate part of the start-up capital from personal savings
  • Source for soft loans from family members
  • Apply for loan from the bank

N.B : We were able to generate the sum of N1 million from personal savings and the sum of N855,000 from family members.

After approaching the bank for a loan of N1 million to be repaid in 5 years and at a 3% interest rate, we have come to an agreement as all documents approving the loan has been signed and we have been told that our business account will be duly credited by the end of the week.

14. Sustainability and Expansion Strategy

In order to sustain and grow our business and knowing how important the future of our business is to us, we have put several factors into consideration such as the loyalty of our customers, our standard of running the business, as well as our business structure.

The loyalty of our customers is very important to us and as such we have adopted a customer care approach that is excellent.

We have ensured that all our loyal customers get incentives from us in a bid to increase their loyalty to us, and those that refer us to other paying customers also get special incentives from us as well. We have a responsive customer care that understands industry trends and is able to offer our customers accurate information.

Due to the fact that we run a business that is global, we intend to ensure that our mango sourcing, preservation and packaging methods are according to international best practices. We also intend to set the pace as well in the industry, so we have employed the best food technologist.

Our desire to build a solid business structure is borne out of excellence. We have gone the extra mile to hire the best employees that have the right experience, attitude and proficiency in running our mango exporting business successfully.

Our employees also understand the industry and will do all it takes to ensure that we attain all our intended goals and objectives.

There is growing evidence that ethnic minorities in Europe are disproportionately affected by Covid-19. Using a name-based ethnicity classifier, we found that hospitalised Black, Asian and minority ethnic cases were younger and more likely to be admitted to intensive care (ICU). Pakistani, Bangladeshi and White - other than British or Irish, ethnic groups were most at risk. In this study, older age and male gender, but not ethnicity, were associated with death in hospitalised patients.
